Most of us know that dopamine is called the seeking hormone, the feel-good hormone but did you know that dopamine can also be called the predictive hormone?
You see, dopamine is released, when the world meets our expectations or exceeds them. This is why in scenarios even if there’s a negative outcome, meaning an outcome that we didn't really want, we still get a splash of dopamine. This is when you’re like, ”I figured that would happen or see, I told you so, I knew this was how the world was.” The dopamine is released because you got what you expected. It reinforces that the world is as you predicted it to be and there's safety in that you know exactly how the world works.
This predictive side of the dopamine hormone is exactly why we often rejoice in things we shouldn’t because it feels so right. The problem is that it supports a story that keeps us at our current level. There is another story that we can receive dopamine from too. It’s the one where you create a different experience, uplevel your life, and do epic sh*t. Listen in to learn how.
